Job Summary The Registered Echocardiography Technologist / Sonographer performs non‑invasive echocardiography procedures on patients aged 16 years and older.

Procedures include transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) with 3D and strain, stress echocardiography, and assistance to cardiologists with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) including 3D TEE for both outpatients and inpatients.

First shift, second shift, and weekend options are available with 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts.

Incentive pay is provided for working nights and weekends.

A sign‑on bonus is available.

Responsibilities

Uses two patient identifiers and compares the doctor’s order to the requisition for accuracy.

Obtains accurate medical history and fills out the appropriate worksheet.

Performs clinical assessment and all diagnostic echocardiographic laboratory examinations such as TTE, 3D, strain, contrast, and stress echoes with treadmill or dobutamine.

Assists with TEEs with or without 3D and other tests as determined by the technical and medical directors of the lab.

Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images and is able to recognize the significance of all structures visualized, differentiate normal from abnormal, and recognize artifacts.

Coordinates work schedule with supervisor and front desk to assure workload coverage and that studies are performed in proper order based on whether they are STAT, pending discharge, or held over from day before.

Responsible for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the technologist’s care.

Maintains a daily log of patients seen and bills each patient appropriately.

Follows the lab protocols but is able to deviate when clinically necessary.

Completes all measurements and the structured report accurately.

Maintains ultrasound equipment and work areas and keeps room stocked with needed supplies.

Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with coworkers and with all interrelating hospital, referral or commercial agencies.

Assists in orientation and training of new staff members and students.

Observes and reports to the cardiologist any change in patient’s condition during testing or any unusual findings.

Communicates accurate patient information in a timely manner to peers, physicians, and other departments.

Uses all diagnostic computer applications and communication equipment efficiently and in a safe manner.

Routinely demonstrates the ability to prioritize workload.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Graduate within 3 months from an accredited ultrasound program.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Credentials from the American Registry for Diagnostic Media Specialists (ARDMS) or Canadian Credentialing Initiative (CCI) in echo sonography, or become credentialed within one year from the date of hire.

Maintain 12 continuing education unit (CEU) credits for registry compliance; the hospital provides some CEU opportunities.

Pay Range $32.30 – $48.05 per hour
