The Controller is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for leading, managing, and improving all accounting and financial operations. This role balances hands‑on execution with strategic oversight—ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting, strong internal controls, and proactive financial planning to support growth. Working closely with the existing staff accountant, this role shares duties and provides supervision to maintain efficient, well‑documented workflows. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA) as defined by EOS principles, with a proven ability to streamline systems, mentor staff, and translate financial data into actionable business insight. Extensive experience with QuickBooks and comfort operating in a fast‑paced, small‑business environment are essential. Financial Leadership & Strategy

Lead, manage, and improve all financial and accounting operations in alignment with company goals and EOS principles. Develop and maintain financial strategies, budgets, and forecasts that support the company’s growth and direction. Provide accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis to guide decision‑making and quarterly/annual planning sessions. Contribute to EOS scorecards and rocks to ensure financial visibility and alignment. Accounting Operations

Oversee full-cycle accounting: A/R, A/P, payroll, G/L, job costing, and revenue recognition. Share bookkeeping responsibilities with the bookkeeper as needed, ensuring accuracy and efficient workflow. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports (profitability, utilization, overhead, etc.). Maintain and enforce documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Cash Flow, Treasury & Risk Management

Monitor weekly cash position and ensure sufficient liquidity. Oversee insurance renewals, risk mitigation, and internal process reviews. Coordinate annual financial, insurance, and tax audits, maintaining organized and complete documentation. Compliance & Reporting

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and payroll regulations. File or oversee all required tax filings (payroll, W‑2s, 1099s, sales/use tax, etc.). Maintain audit‑ready documentation and uphold GAAP standards. Job Costing & Project Accounting

Support both fixed‑price and time‑and‑material (T&M) project accounting models. Partner with project managers on WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project billing. Provide job‑level profitability reports and assist in forecasting margins for large projects. Systems & Process Improvement/QuickBooks Expertise

Utilize and optimize QuickBooks for reporting, job costing, and system integrations. Evaluate and implement tools that improve accuracy, automation, and efficiency. Champion continuous process improvement across finance and operations. Supervisory Duties & EOS Integration

Supervise and mentor the staff accountant and PT HR Generalist, providing clear direction and accountability under EOS LMA principles. Conduct regular one‑on‑ones and quarterly reviews to ensure alignment and performance. Actively participate in Level 10 meetings, scorecard tracking, and rock‑setting to drive team accountability. Serve on the Leadership Team, contributing to company strategy and decision‑making. Communicate financial insights clearly to non‑financial team members. Build collaboration between finance, operations, and project management. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Monthly close completed within 5 business days. Forecast variance within ±5% of actual results. Maintain 6+ weeks operating cash liquidity;

Clean annual audit and compliance results. Timely and accurate project profitability reporting across all active jobs. Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting role. Proven experience in project‑based industries (engineering, construction, or system integration preferred). Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel; ability to design and analyze custom reports. Deep understanding of GAAP, job costing, and revenue recognition. Experience leading teams and implementing process improvements. Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills; thrives in a small, fast‑moving organization. Seniority Level
