Travel Unit Description – Operating Room (Transplant Specialty) Type of Care: High-acuity perioperative care with emphasis on
solid organ transplant
(heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas) and multi-specialty surgical support. Teaching-hospital environment; staff will participate in orientation/training of students and new hires. Patient Population: Neonates through geriatrics undergoing transplant and other complex surgical procedures. Unit Capacity & Volume: ~18 operating rooms; ~55–60 cases per day (variable by service line and schedule). Shift & Scheduling: Day shifts (standard OR hours); call required. Weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled. Float between OR specialties as needed. Primary Responsibilities: Provide intraoperative nursing care as scrub and circulating RN for transplant and complex specialty cases. Prepare and maintain sterile field, perform surgical counts, label/handle specimens, and manage equipment/supplies. Coordinate with anesthesia, surgeons, perfusion, and ancillary teams to ensure safe procedural flow. Follow universal protocol (“time out”), infection control, and malignant hyperthermia response procedures. Participate in orientation/precepting and ongoing clinical education. Hard Requirements: Direct transplant OR experience required (NOT procurement-only). HARD STOP. Minimum

with documented transplant case experience. Certifications & Licensure: Required:
BLS. Preferred:
ACLS, CNOR. Core Skills & Procedures: Scrub/circulate for transplant operations (heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas). Support broad OR caseload: cardiovascular, neuro, thoracic, vascular, robotics, general, ortho/spine, plastics, trauma, pediatrics, urology, GU, ENT, robotics, etc. Competence with cell-saver use, electrosurgical units, fiber-optic lighting, Specialty OR tables (Hana), Steris equipment. Administration/management of blood & blood products; specimen handling and labeling; start peripheral IVs; urinary catheterization; wound management. Familiarity with robotic systems (Da Vinci, Mako, etc.) and hybrid OR workflows is a plus. Equipment & Systems: Documentation: Epic (preferred/used). Medication/automation: Pyxis (or similar). Common OR equipment: cell saver, electrosurgical units, fiber optics, Steris, specialty tables. Experience & Expectations: Must demonstrate ability to function independently in high-acuity, fast-paced OR environment. Teaching-hospital mentality: willingness to train and work with learners. Prior exposure to wide range of surgical specialties preferred. Orientation & Onboarding: Typical OR orientation (approx. 40 hours) plus specialty/preceptor time as required. Uniform & Miscellaneous: Scrubs provided. Standard pre-approved time-off per contract (1–2 requests typical). Notes: This unit requires transplant RN experience (scrub/circulate) — candidates without documented transplant OR cases should not be advanced.
