Summary We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Transportation team in North Austin! This is a great opportunity for a PE who is interested in working with a dynamic team on a wide range of transportation projects, while mentoring junior team members and providing guidance under the direction of a Project Manager. We serve a range of clients, including the City of Houston, various special districts (TIRZ and Management Districts), City of Pearland, City of League City, City of La Porte, Harris County, Jersey Village, TxDOT, and more! A majority of our work is currently in the Houston area, but we have plans to expand into the Austin and surrounding area market in the near future.

We specialize in providing the full range of services from the planning phase to completion of construction. This includes planning, preliminary engineering, design, construction phase, and construction management services on a wide range of projects, including improvements to roadways, trails, sidewalks, storm sewers, water lines, wastewater lines, streetlighting, detention basins, and more! You will be working side-by-side with a team of knowledgeable engineers and professionals in an environment that fosters collaboration and career development.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Uses professional judgment to direct and independently complete assigned engineering designs.

Under the direction of the Project Manager, assigns and manages tasks and schedules to Staff Engineer (I/II) and non-exempt project team members.

Ensures the accuracy of completed tasks using HR Green QA/QC processes established for each project.

Completes major design tasks that meet the needs of internal and external customers.

Monitors and pro-actively identifies or corrects technical, schedule, or financial issues through effective communication with the Project Manager.

Assists the Client in bidding or contractor selection.

Responds to contractor questions and issues and prepares and issues project addenda as needed.

Recommends and prepares change orders.

Participates in the creation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work.

Signs and seals engineering documents as an authorized representative of the company.

Independently communicates on technical matters with the client, verbally and written.

Acts as technical expert on assigned projects when operating as an individual contributor and acts as Project Manager on smaller scope or specialty projects as assigned.

Writes preliminary engineering reports.

Education And Experience

Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four‑year or graduate engineering university and be professionally registered (P.E.) in Texas at a minimum (or have the ability to obtain such registration within six months of employment).

Must have four years of design/engineering experience.

Experience completing design of roadways, intersections, and sidewalks/trails required.

Experience in traffic control plans, detention basins, storm sewer systems, wastewater lines, or water lines preferred.

Must have advanced knowledge of CADD and engineering automation tools as follows:

Bentley OpenRoads Designer experience preferred.

Bentley Microstation V8i experience preferred.

AutoDesk Civil 3D experience accepted.

Must be proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans.

Must be capable of correctly operating technical analysis equipment and computer equipment.

Must possess strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non‑routine tasks and engineering activities.
