Qualifications
Knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Standard office procedures and practices.
Principles and practices of first aid.
Specialized procedures, methods, and/or policies as designated.
Word processing techniques and computer software applications.
Basic principles and practices of first aid.
CPR.
Skill to learn specific procedures and operations and effectively apply them to work situations.
Typing accuracy at a minimum speed of 40 words per minute.
Assist in processing forms, applications, documents, records or other paperwork in support of specialized program.
Learn the operations, procedures, policies and requirements of assigned program.
Perform routine mathematical calculations.
Maintain routine records.
Understand and effectively carry out oral and written directions in an independent manner.
Essential Functions
Receives and screens ill or injured students or staff; cares for or refers treatment to parents and others as required via established District policies and procedures.
Administers CPR/First Aid as needed.
Organizes, prepares, maintains, and updates information for student health records, files, and emergency cards.
Maintains and updates immunization records on every student at assigned site; verifies accuracy and completeness in accordance with State Law.
Reviews student immunization records and notifies students, parents, etc., of immunization needs to meet State requirements.
Contacts parents regarding accidents or illnesses; prepares accident reports per District protocol and maintains records at school site.
Assists nurse in school health programs such as hearing/vision testing, immunizations compliance, and other health related duties as needed.
Assists school personnel with athletic/sports physicals upon request.
Maintains lists and files of students with medical and physical problems and advises teachers and staff of special health needs/accommodations.
Inventories and orders health office supplies.
Performs standard clerical functions such as typing/word processing, filing, record keeping, and similar duties in support of school office operations.
Attends in-service training sessions arranged by District office.
Maintains medication authorization forms for each student taking medication at school; administers emergency medical injections and medications (i.e., Diastat, Epi-Pen and Glucagon) in strict compliance with doctor's orders, District policy, and State Laws.
Assists/administers medication in accordance with State Laws and keeps a record of medication administration in school health office.
Establishes and maintains logs/records of all student visits to the health office; noting times, reason, and disposition.
Applies strict policies and procedures to specific situations.
Establishes and maintains effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Duties of Position
Prepare, maintain, and update student health/immunization records and files.
Administer first aid and perform other routine non-technical activities in the assistance of ill and injured students.
Assist administration with designated health maintenance/preventative activities and assigned clerical tasks.
Additional Requirements
One year typing and general clerical and typing/word processing experience is required. Some health related experience preferred.
A recent five‑minute typing certificate that is less than two years old must accompany the application (cannot be an online website). Kern High School District employees with current same or higher typing speed do not need to submit a certificate.
A criminal history check will be required of the successful candidate prior to employment.
Current CPR and first-aid certificates are required.
Starting Salary: $2,972.72 (monthly)
Number of months: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)
Number of hours: 8 hours daily (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
