Position Overview The ACe Unit enforces administrative citations for issues such as nuisance properties, tenant harassment, and improper short‑term rentals. As Deputy City Attorney II/III, you will provide legal support for the Tenant Harassment Program, advocate for tenants, investigate harassment cases under housing laws, support enforcement prosecutions, and advise the Mayor, LAHD, and the City Council on program guidance and priorities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Advocate for tenants in tenant‐anti‑harassment matters.

Investigate harassment cases through rent code and housing code lenses.

Support enforcement of criminal prosecution functions.

Provide recommendations to the Mayor, LAHD, and Council on program guidelines, priorities, and expenditures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Licensed to practice law in all courts in the State of California.

Excellent oral communication skills and effective oral advocacy.

Demonstrated ability to interact tactfully with the public, law enforcement, and the court system.

Strong research and writing skills.

Additional Beneficial Qualifications

Minimum three years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Experience with cannabis laws, nuisance abatement, code enforcement, and other regulatory matters.

Understanding of evidentiary issues and hearing/trial strategy in criminal or civil contexts.

Experience with electronic databases and the digital presentation of evidence.

Experience with Business and Professions Code section 17200 and other civil enforcement causes of action.

Legal research skills.

Additional Information Initial placement will be at City Hall East, 200 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, with potential assignment to any location of the Office.

Appointment is exempt and subject to a two‑year probationary period as required by Section 1050 of the City Charter; successful completion leads to tenure.

The position is available for internal applicants as a lateral transfer; classification remains unchanged.
