Job Overview The Area Industrial Engineer will work directly with production leadership in implementing lean manufacturing systems. The main purpose of this position is to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, person‑hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not generate value. The role requires ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement best practices in lean manufacturing to achieve department goals and objectives
Implement common Industrial Engineering business practices and processes
Support implementation and training for standardized work development
Become a coach and teacher of lean manufacturing principles to the production floor
Drive problem solving efforts
Work collaboratively as one team with all levels of the organization
Develop relationships with production department and related personnel
Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity
Maintain accurate time studies through motion analysis and application of standard time data
Maintain accurate routings of parts to their assembly location
Maintain accurate workstation layouts using computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD)
Drive continuous improvement efforts in assigned area through elimination of waste
Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned area
Support change management projects by developing line balance plans and participating in production trials
Reduce total cost improving productivity metrics related to operator work loading and value‑added percent
Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM’s Global Manufacturing System
Optimize sequence of operations and work flow
Create metrics to monitor schedule progress and help identify risk areas
Ability to travel 10% of the time or higher based on business needs domestically and/or internationally
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience
1 year of Industrial Engineering, CI experience, or Manufacturing Experience
Strong experience working in a manufacturing environment with a background in CI
Ability to work / rotate through all 3 shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
Ability to work over‑time, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed
Experience in documentation of standardized work procedures
Experience in implementation of lean manufacturing concepts
Knowledge of time study and motion analysis
Self‑motivated individual with continuous improvement focus
Strong oral & written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of human factors engineering / ergonomic analysis
Excellent skills in Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of computer aided drafting tools (AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Line Designer)
Ability to adapt to different interpersonal styles and communication methods
Project management and time management skills
Additional Information Onsite – The successful candidate is expected to report to Spring Hill, Tennessee on a full‑time basis.
