The counselor will provide trauma‑informed supportive services, education, and counseling to clients and their families, who desire assistance with their problems. Duties & Responsibilities
Provide each client with positive, professional and quality service; always promoting respect, dignity and fairness and making appropriate referrals to assist clients in reaching their maximum level of independence. Provide services for individuals and families. Lead a variety of groups, including educational, process, and support groups. Maintain client charts in an organized order and in accordance with policy. Write and monitor client treatment plans according to program policies. Arrange referrals for clients to other outside private and public agencies as appropriate. Attend staff meetings and be involved in staff committees as requested. Prepare accurate records, statistical and other required reports within specified time requirements. Follow work schedules, including some evening and weekend shifts; changes in shift assignment may be made according to program needs. Perform all other duties as assigned. Education
Certified in the State of Illinois as a Certified Counselor. Maintain certification status with IAODAPCA. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two years of previous experience as a Counselor. Experience
At least 2 years of experience working with children and/or adults in a classroom environment. Experience with a computer-based work environment and excellent knowledge of Word. Competencies
Service‑oriented interpersonal style that anticipates and responds to client needs. Flexible, open to learning. Team player as well as independent worker. Excellent attention to detail, procedures, processes, and policies. Communicative style that exhibits the principles and values of the Army and fosters team relationships. Ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs in a constantly changing environment. Provide individual and group counseling, assessment, and work cooperatively with supervisor and other staff. Strong sense of integrity and ability to handle confidential material. Hands‑on knowledge of effectively working with diversity. Well organized, attentive to time management and able to separate work and personal boundaries. Capability to work with clients who have poor social skills, mental illness, or substance abuse problems. Work Environment
Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co‑workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others’ property and person; professional and appropriate communication with co‑workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
