Under supervision of the Operations Manager and Team Leader, you will be responsible for the safe use of ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation and molecular imaging for diagnostic, therapeutic and research purposes. This includes all documentation, regulatory compliance, patient care and customer service skills required to complete molecular imaging procedures.

Job Description Essential Duties & Responsibilities Patient Care

Verify patient identification per hospital policy.

Review procedure orders and assigned imaging protocols.

Document patient pregnancy and lactation status.

Evaluate patient medical history.

Confirm that pre‑procedure preparation has been completed per protocol.

Screen for contraindications and interfering conditions; review by a nuclear medicine physician if needed.

Follow infection control guidelines for patient care.

Explain procedures to patients and/or legal guardians; use interpreter if needed. Allow time for questions.

Insert and monitor peripheral IV catheter for procedures.

Ensure and monitor patient comfort during procedures.

Administer radiopharmaceuticals per protocol.

Utilize appropriate acquisition protocol, patient positioning and image processing to ensure quality diagnostic images and/or quantitative results.

Perform image quality control; assess artifacts and repeat images if necessary. Consult with physician if required.

Administer oral and IV CT contrast as needed; understand administration and side effects of CT contrast media; assess patient for allergy and verify preparations.

Monitor patient for side effects following contrast administration.

Recognize and respond to patient emergencies and adverse events.

Assist patients as needed to complete procedures.

Coordinate with department staff to maintain efficient patient flow.

Communicate with patients throughout their procedure.

Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Document all procedure information in dose manager, EMR and PACS.

Understand computer systems and image processing; responsible for reconstruction and processing of patient images.

Collaborate with authorized users to perform therapeutic procedures.

Perform therapeutic treatments following the facility Quality Management Program (QMP).

Follow infection control guidelines for equipment cleaning.

Radiation Safety

Use ALARA techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients, the public, other healthcare professionals and yourself.

Wear dosimetry badges as required.

Perform required department radiation surveys and wipe testing.

Follow state regulations for receipt, storage, disposal and usage of all radioactive materials.

Use radiation protection shielding to reduce exposure.

Follow radiation safety procedures documented in the facility Radiation Safety Manual.

Quality Control

Perform and document equipment quality control per the quality control schedule to ensure proper function of department instruments and imaging systems.

Communicate equipment issues with service vendors and/or IT to troubleshoot.

Report equipment issues to department management.

Certifications And License

Active ARRT(N) or NMTCB(CNMT) certification required.

Nuclear Medicine MA DPH Radiation Control Program licensure required.

ARRT Computed Tomography certification preferred.

NMTCB(PET) certification if needed.

Maintain compliance with continuing education requirements for certifications and state licensure.

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.

Education Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.

Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

Licensed in Nuclear Medicine Technology by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program.

ARRT(N) or NMTCB(CNMT) certification required.

ARRT(CT) certification preferred.

AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Experience with PACS, dose management software and electronic medical records.

Knowledge of standard business PC software applications (e.g., MS Office).

Ability to provide exceptional customer service while interacting with patients, colleagues and clinical personnel.

Ability to interact and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and customers in day‑to‑day interactions.

Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a hospital environment.

Pay Range $47.00 - $69.84
