Job Summary
We are seeking highly motivated, dependable, and skilled Small Diameter Drill Operators to join our Geotechnical Construction Services team. This position entails operating specialized drill rigs and associated equipment for infrastructure projects involving advanced foundations and earth retention systems, including micropiles and tiebacks. The role requires working outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year, with significant travel throughout Virginia and possible extensions to Maryland or the District of Columbia. A competitive per diem allowance is provided to support travel needs, complemented by an attractive base salary and a robust benefits package. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teamwork, effective communication, prior experience in earthwork and drilling operations, and the capability to oversee assistants while upholding the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate and maintain drill rigs, ensuring precise installation of tiebacks, micropiles, soil mats, and other geotechnical components to meet project specifications.
Prepare and mix grout formulations for applications in tiebacks, micropiles, and similar systems, drawing on preferred prior experience to achieve optimal results.
Conduct minor repairs and perform routine preventive maintenance on drilling equipment to minimize downtime and promote long-term reliability.
Provide supervision and guidance to drill rig assistants, including oversight of tooling preparation and grout mixing processes, to ensure seamless team coordination.
Strictly adhere to established safety protocols and actively promote a culture of safety awareness to mitigate risks and maintain a secure work environment for all personnel.
Collaborate closely with project teams, engineers, and stakeholders to execute tasks efficiently, resolve challenges proactively, and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications and Physical Requirements
Demonstrated expertise in earthwork, drilling techniques, and geotechnical construction practices, with a preference for experience in micropile installation and related methodologies.
Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable personal transportation for job-related travel.
Physical capability to lift up to 60 pounds from ground to waist level and 30 pounds overhead, with the ability to handle repetitive lifting as needed.
Endurance for prolonged standing, walking, and ladder climbing during full shifts, often in demanding terrains.
Resilience to perform effectively in diverse outdoor environments, encompassing wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid conditions.
Adequate corrected vision in both eyes and normal hearing to safely operate equipment and communicate on-site.
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; additional certifications or specialized training in heavy equipment operation are highly advantageous.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to thrive in collaborative team settings.
