Overview

To perform as a technologist and assist the physician with patients who have had a variety of invasive cardiac procedures including but not limited to diagnostic heart catheterization, interventional cardiac procedures, electrophysiological, device implantations, and peripheral vascular procedures. Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Must possess current Radiography licensure as required by the state board where services will be provided. MD:

Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology PA:

No state license required WV:

Radiography License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas. Experience: One (1) year experience as a CV interventional radiologic technologist. Career Ladder Level Requirement: One additional certification through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT): Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) Cardiovascular Interventional (CV) Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) Or one additional certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI): RCIS or RCES Preferred Qualifications: Obtain Dysthymia course certification through WVU Medicine within one year of hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The statements described here describe the general nature of work and are not an all-inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned. Obtains and prepares medications under direct Physician order for procedures. Observes sterile technique while assembling supplies necessary for physician and lab personnel involved to scrub and enter the lab. Continuously monitors patient’s ECG and blood pressure, documents activity, and provides information to the Physician for the patient’s permanent record. Answers the phone in the cardiac catheterization or vascular laboratory in a courteous and timely manner, identifying unit and self at all times. Coordinates the laboratory’s procedural schedule with patient demand and physician schedules. Acts as the laboratory’s code team by initiating resuscitative measures and cardiac defibrillation under the supervision of the physician in charge. Documents all procedures, uses the inventory control system, and assists with inventory counts. Escorts patients safely to appropriate departments. Applies electrocautery and ablation pad under supervision of the Physician. Instructs radiography students in the clinical setting regarding patient positioning, technique, and equipment use. Monitors and interprets hemodynamic monitoring. Prepares the entry site using sterile technique. Participates in Inventory Management of the department. Checks and prepares patient prior to procedure.

The CV Interventional Radiology Clinical Ladder is a system-wide program to enhance professional development, reward quality performance, promote quality imaging care, and improve job satisfaction for interventional radiologic technologists. To apply for the next level, the technologist must meet the requirements of the current level and the required years of experience, degree, and certification.

Level Details

Level 1: No experience required. All CV Interventional Radiologic Technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one. Level 2: Meets previous level; one year of experience; complete Skill Set Tech 1; complete Workday course. Level 3: Meets previous levels; one continuing education pathway; three years of experience; compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills; complete Skill Set Tech 1 and 2. Level 4: Meets previous levels; one continuing education pathway; five years of experience; compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills; complete Tech Skill Sets 1, 2, and 3.

Additional Details

Schedule: M-F 7-3:30, call every 3rd night and every 3rd weekend.
