Patient Care Tech – Certified Med Surg Location: BMC Berkeley Medical Center, 2500 Hospital Drive, Martinsburg, West Virginia (WVU Medicine Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers). Shift: Day. Job Summary This role performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The PCT‑C will provide high‑quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Completion of the WVUM Patient Care Technician program OR current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification issued by the state where services are provided (Ohio: Nurse Aide through Ohio Nurses Aide Registry; West Virginia: Nurse Aide through WV DHHR Certified Nursing Assistant).

Preferred Qualifications

Prior patient care experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Observe and report all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.

Assist the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.

Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures, record oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).

Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.

Assist in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.

Report all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.

Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.

Communicate with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.

Assist department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.

Answer patient call bell and relay message to appropriate personnel.

Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.
