What This Job Involves
The HVAC Technician (HVAC Mechanic) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC and electrical equipment located in the interior and exterior of the building. The role includes installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical/electrical operating equipment and machinery, as well as operating, repairing, and maintaining utility plant equipment and associated systems. The technician regularly conducts a routine and ongoing assessment of building systems operations, performs tests, rounds, and analyzes data to assure proper functioning of departmental equipment, and monitors the operation of all mechanical & electrical operating equipment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components using hand tools and power tools.
Installs, maintains, and repairs commercial HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, air handlers, and building automation systems in office buildings.
Diagnoses system malfunctions and equipment failures using diagnostic tools, gauges, and computerized control systems to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks such as filter changes, belt inspections, lubrication, calibration of controls, and seasonal system startups/shutdowns to ensure optimal performance.
Reads and interprets technical documentation including blueprints, schematics, manufacturer specifications, and building automation system interfaces to execute work orders accurately.
Ensures compliance with safety protocols and regulations including EPA refrigerant handling requirements, OSHA standards, and local building codes while maintaining proper certifications.
Required Qualifications
EPA Universal
Sixteen (16) hours of continuing education annually from a NATE, HVAC Excellence, or UA Star recognized provider program.
One (1) or more of the following certifications:
North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) HVACR Service Technician Certification
HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification
UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification

Work Shift Monday-Friday 8:30-5
Salary / Compensation Base: $34.74 + H&W: $13.00 + Pension: $11.00
