Staff Software Engineer, Retail
Join Toast as a staff software engineer in the Retail team. Retail is part of the New Ventures unit and focuses on building a new generation of products that scale alongside Toast’s existing restaurant platform. The role will help grow the product from beta to a scalable tier, building infrastructure that supports store inventory and retail data models.
About this role (Responsibilities)
Work closely with leads to identify high‑impact opportunities in the domain.
Plan, scope, and prototype solutions from design to rollout, using web and server‑side technologies.
Make technical decisions and recommendations that lay the foundation for the future of our integrations strategy.
Stay in tune with customer needs by participating in partner evaluation calls and industry research.
Do you have the right ingredients? (Requirements)
Growth mindset with an emphasis on learning and self/team improvement.
7+ years experience building and shipping production software to customers.
Experience with Java, Kotlin, or other object‑oriented programming languages.
Experience building integrations.
Respectful, empathetic, and humble.
Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild.
Startup mindset and comfort with ambiguity.
Flexible in using different tech stacks and languages.
Comfortable with testing methodologies and frameworks.
