Overview Dental Assistant role at Zufall Health. Reports to the site manager and Assistant Site Manager (if applicable) with clinical oversight from SVP of Dental Services, SVP of Nursing, and Chief Medical Officer. Responsible for assisting the dentist(s) and dental hygienist(s) in the direct provision of primary care dental services, as well as sterilization, preparation, and inventory control of all instruments and supplies.
Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities Serves as dentist’s or dental hygienist’s chair-side assistant
Prepares operatory for patient treatment per ZHC protocols and the dentist’s or dental hygienist’s directions
Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering questions, and giving directions as authorized by the dentist or dental hygienist
Exposes and develops dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and ZHC directives
Performs independent procedures as delegated by the dentist in accordance with state law and ZHC directives
Maintains dental department equipment per manufacturer instructions and policy
Maintains all dental department areas in compliance with infection control, blood borne pathogens, exposure control, and safety policies
Maintains materials, equipment, and ensures sterility of clinical materials and equipment per product standards and ZHC policies
Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles a list of shortages for inventory control and ordering
Monitors patient flow, maintains patient records, and assists the SVP of Dental Services, dentist(s), and dental hygienist(s) as needed
Receives and places work-related calls consistent with professional matters and clinic needs
Performs other clinical and administrative functions as appropriate
Ensures proper disposal of contaminated materials per policies and regulations
Complies with exposure control plans, PPE, and universal precautions
Participates in health promotion and disease prevention activities as required
Travels between sites as needed
Performs other related tasks to achieve organizational goals
Maintains personal compliance with all applicable laws and ZHC rules
Follows regulations and HIPAA in clinical care, safety, public health, and confidentiality
Assists in routine testing of dental units
Provides coverage for auxiliary staff as needed
Demonstrates and teaches staff and students the use of equipment and proper dental protocol
Works in patient intake areas as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements Comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques for all phases of general dentistry
Knowledge of modern dental materials, storage, handling, and applications
Completion of accredited dental assisting program preferred
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines
Ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines
Effective English communication; Spanish language skills preferred
Empathetic and professional patient interaction
Ability to work with diverse populations; ability to work under stress and irregular hours may be required
Exposure to clinical environment risks; ability to handle such conditions
Physical ability to perform typical dental assisting duties
Proficiency with telephones, computers, and office equipment
Commitment to trauma-informed care principles
Education, Training and Experience High school diploma or GED
Certified Dental Assistant preferred
Registered Dental Assistant preferred
Current CPR (BLS) required
Valid Radiology license in NJ
Fluent in English and Spanish required
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, typing, and electronic medical records required
Salary: $21.00-$27.82 per hour
