Position Summary
The Phlebotomist plays a vital role in supporting Altheda’s clinical operations by performing accurate and efficient specimen collection and ensuring the highest standard of patient care. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, patient experience, and clinical excellence while working closely with medical providers, medical assistants, and laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen collection on patients of all ages.
Accurately label, document, and process specimens for laboratory testing.
Verify patient identification and ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and HIPAA regulations.
Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transport procedures.
Prepare and track daily lab orders through EClinicalWorks and laboratory partner systems (e.g., Sonka, Quest, LabCorp).
Assist with in-house testing (rapid tests, urine collection, pregnancy testing, etc.) under provider supervision.
Maintain phlebotomy supplies, ensure cleanliness of lab areas, and perform equipment calibration as required.
Support the clinical team in quality assurance processes, including incident documentation and result tracking.
Educate patients on specimen collection and post-procedure care in a professional, reassuring manner.
Participate in ongoing training programs and operational improvement initiatives at Altheda.
Qualifications
Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent training from an accredited institution.
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong attention to detail.
Preferred
Experience with EClinicalWorks or other EMR systems.
Experience in outpatient or multi-specialty medical centers.
Knowledge of CLIA-waived testing protocols and OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.
