About the Role Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer, the VP of Commercial Lending leads all aspects of the Credit Union’s commercial lending operations, including origination, underwriting, processing, funding, and servicing of Small Business loans. This key leadership role drives growth, profitability, and an exceptional member experience while maintaining a strong credit review and approval structure. The VP identifies new market opportunities, supports underserved communities, ensures regulatory compliance, and collaborates closely with commercial sales teams.
The role also includes managing the department’s budget, risk management, strategic planning, and the development of new products, services, and procedures. Leadership responsibilities include hiring, training, mentoring, and motivating staff while promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute the Commercial Lending Strategy to achieve business objectives
Oversee all Commercial Lending operations and departmental goals
Monitor underwriting quality, risk management, and regulatory compliance
Chair the Business Lending Committee and provide credit oversight
Ensure exceptional member service throughout the lending process
Manage staff performance, professional development, and team productivity
Maintain expert-level knowledge of commercial/business lending, trends, and regulations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
10+ years of experience in Commercial/Business Lending with direct credit authority, including 5 years in management
Expertise in loan origination, underwriting, documentation, and automated lending platforms
Direct experience in production, documentation, & closing of business lending products & the automated lending platforms needed to drive applications, credit quality & underwriting efficiencies
Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and strategic planning skills
Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and NCUA regulations
Demonstrated ability to drive results, motivate staff, and manage high-performing teams
