2531 - Heavy Equipment Operator III – FNF Construction, Inc., a MasTec Company Responsible for operating various types of heavy equipment, including front end loaders (4CY or greater), motor grader, excavator (20 ton class or larger), dozer, scraper, tractor – pan, track hoe, skid pan, trencher, and applicable light and medium equipment to perform construction tasks such as land clearing, common/mass excavation, pond/reservoir excavation, rough grade/finish grade roadway, and underground utility work for heavy civil, industrial, and wind projects. Responsibilities Promote and comply with all company and safety policies and procedures. Operate heavy equipment, including knowledge of equipment functions, running, navigating, detecting and assessing problems, mechanical aptitude, and driving. Build level and/or extreme terrain and excavate land surfaces, using various pieces of construction equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain. Gather and load dirt, stone, equipment, materials, and waste product from jobsite onto trucks using different pieces of equipment. Excavate trenches with proper slopes per OSHA. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members. Communicate clearly, listen, and understand information through spoken words and sentences. Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines; fill out maintenance reports daily. Travel to different jobsites on limited notice, if required. Perform other duties as required which may change from time to time as assigned by superintendent or foreman. Compensation: hourly $22‑$40. Qualifications 1‑3 years related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 1 year of experience in heavy equipment operation. Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project‑specific regulations. Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficiency with basic math operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) and applying them to weight and volume units. Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards. Other duties may be assigned. Physical Demands Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions. Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks. Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals. Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions (weather and site conditions). May involve moderate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises. Wear personal protective equipment (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.) as required. Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; may need to work at heights and abide by all safety and fall‑protection requirements. Evaluate information based on measurable standards; see details in objects or drawings; recognize slight differences in shapes and shading; visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings; maintain good balance; see and hear well.
