Overview Smiles at Lakewood Ranch is looking for a Dental Assistant to join our team. This role supports the dental office ecosystem and is aligned with Heartland Dental’s commitment to patient-first care, teamwork, and continuous learning.
Responsibilities Greet and welcome patients from the start of their dental journey, sustain patient comfort, and provide education throughout treatment
Review patient health history to support quality care
Take and process x-rays and other diagnostic assessments (e.g., iTero 3D scanner, digital photography)
Provide chairside assistance (four-handed dentistry) to supported dentists during a variety of procedures in accordance with state dental practice act
Utilize Dentrix for patient scheduling and record keeping
Prepare treatment rooms with adherence to safety protocols and OSHA & CDC guidelines
Manage supply and inventory levels and place/expedite orders as needed
Collaborate with providers and team to implement Heartland Dental systems and maximize office workflow

Minimum Qualifications Working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
Experience in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment
Dental assistant certification and/or x-ray certification if required by state dental practice act
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Access to minimum PHI necessary for job-related functions; regular HIPAA training will be required; ability to protect PHI and maintain data safeguards
Preferred Experience 1+ years of experience in a dental setting
Dentrix or other dental software experience
Dental assisting school certification
Physical Requirements Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds at times
Availability to attend virtual or in-person training sessions periodically
TB test required for all new hires in dental office positions (not applicable in FL & TN); test arranged during pre-employment process
