Summary Senior Manager Environmental Engineering responsible for ensuring that Ryder environmental projects are managed in compliance with all regulatory and Ryder requirements; overseeing both remediation and capital projects at Ryder's Fuel Management System (FMS) fueling locations to reduce risks, control costs, and support business operation needs and growth initiatives.

The position reports to the Director, Environmental Engineering and supervises Project Engineers and Environmental Engineering staff. Responsibilities include managing the Company SPCC, Industrial Waste Water and Storm Water Management Programs, supplier relationships, and environmental consulting services. The role also ensures that project engineering standards incorporate Ryder Accounting and financial reporting guidelines while maximizing benefits and recovery from State Trust Fund Reimbursement programs.

Essential Functions

Business Growth and Cost Controls: Manage execution of the FMS 15‑year Fuel Storage Tank Management Plan for select regions, provide direct project supervision, guide Project Engineers and staff in fuel tank installations, upgrades, and removals, manage the Building Materials Assessment Program, oversee environmental due diligence for acquisitions, conduct groundwater monitoring, and supervise remediation projects.

Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on federal, state, and local environmental regulations; establish guidelines for Industrial Waste Water, Storm Water, and SPCC programs in accordance with evolving regulations.

Operations Support: Deliver environmental technical support to the FMS field organization, support maintenance initiatives including Future Fuel Island, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), automated self‑serve fueling, and alternative fuels.

Risk Reduction: Conduct Phase I & II Real Estate Environmental Site Assessments to support due diligence on acquisitions, identify and manage environmental conditions related to property acquisitions and dispositions, and lead hazardous building materials assessment and abatement projects.

Skills And Abilities

Ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple functional areas of the organization, at all levels. (Required)

Strong communication, organizational, and Office Word, Excel, and Project capabilities. (Required)

Confident and experienced in collaborating and interfacing with state/local environmental regulatory agencies. (Required)

Leadership skills to include enthusiastic mentoring and motivation of junior staff on Environmental Engineering and Environmental Services teams.

Proven track record of building and motivating regional/national contractor, engineering, lab, and supplier project management teams to deliver cost‑effective, timely, and successful project results. (Required)

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in engineering, geology, environmental sciences, project management, or related fields. (Required)

10 years or more experienced in managing site assessment and remediation projects post-UST removals. (Required)

10 years or more in extensive experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and replacing underground and above ground fuel tank systems and related infrastructure. (Required)

10 years or more in progressive project management responsibility with emphasis on underground and above ground fuel storage and dispensing infrastructure in a regional or national operating environment. (Required)

Travel 25 - 35%

Compensation Information Position salaried with a base pay range of $140,000 to $160,000 per year. Eligible for an annual bonus, commission, and/or long‑term incentive plan based on level and/or type. Compensation may be influenced by experience, education, location, market data, internal equity, and internal salary ranges.
