We are currently looking for an

AWS DevSecOps Engineer

for a 100% remote position supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The selected candidate will integrate security throughout the software development lifecycle, automate infrastructure, and ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of cloud-based applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AWS cloud services, DevSecOps practices, and familiarity with VA security and compliance requirements.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and resilient AWS-based infrastructure in alignment with VA policies and standards.

Apply DevSecOps practices to automate security processes throughout the CI/CD pipeline.

Ensure security and compliance of AWS environments by implementing best practices consistent with VA policies and federal standards.

Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.

Collaborate with development teams to integrate automated security testing and monitoring throughout the development lifecycle.

Implement and manage security controls, logging, and monitoring tools to detect and respond to threats.

Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify, report, and mitigate vulnerabilities.

Provide technical guidance on secure configuration, deployment, and operation of AWS services.

Participate in incident response and remediation activities, including root cause analysis.

Mentor team members on DevSecOps methodologies and cloud security best practices.

Stay current with emerging AWS services, DevSecOps practices, and cybersecurity trends.

Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of hands‑on experience with AWS cloud services focused on automation, security, and infrastructure management.

In‑depth understanding of VA policies, procedures, and security protocols.

Expertise in DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD automation and security integration.

Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible.

Strong understanding of network security, IAM, encryption, and access‑control best practices.

Experience with AWS security tools such as Security Hub, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, and AWS WAF.

Familiarity with production operations, incident management, and cloud auditing.

Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) to automate security and operational tasks.

Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

U.S. Citizenship required, with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Additional Qualifications

AWS certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty, or Solutions Architect.

Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS).

Familiarity with compliance‑as‑code frameworks and federal standards (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP).

Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, ELK Stack, or Splunk.

Understanding of Zero Trust architecture and security principles.
