Position Title Firepower Hardware Engineer Location Sterling Heights, MI, United States Job Type Full-Time Category Engineering Career Level Mid-Career Remote Work Options On-Site Security Clearance Required Ability to obtain security clearance Description As a member of the Firepower Hardware team, you will be part of a dynamic group of mechanical and electrical engineers responsible for the development and support of Firepower hardware for ground combat vehicles. The Firepower Hardware Specialist engineer will lead the development of hardware components and firmware covering the entire development life‑cycle, from requirements development to design, to final testing and delivery of hardware products. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine‑hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off) Onsite cafeteria, fitness center, and outdoor fitness track Responsibilities Design, develop, integrate and support Firepower hardware and firmware. Focus on military gun & gun control systems, missile and missile control systems, automated ammunition handling systems. Lead the team to ensure work is performed on time with high quality and within budget. Coordinate with program/project/IPT leadership to assign tasks within area to accomplish objectives. Mentor Firepower Hardware team members to establish the technical competency and domain expertise required to successfully execute project responsibilities. Earned Value Management (EVM) status and reporting. Primary interface to develop and maintain the Firepower Cameo model. Seek and identify continuous improvement opportunities to processes. Support program leads in achieving team commitments. Support development and tracking of department metrics. Develop high quality, cost‑effective planning and proposal BOEs/inputs. Maintain ISO and CMMI certification by assisting in developing department procedures and measures to ensure compliance to all appropriate SP's, FOI's and DI's. Promote a team environment and facilitate intra and inter-group coordination. Participate in technical and program reviews. Create a work environment that is oriented to efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction. Assure compliance with all applicable department processes. Technical management of supplier‑developed hardware and services to include Request for Proposals (RFP), Statement of Works (SOW), Product Development Fabrications Specifications (PDFS), verification & qualification plans, development/hardware delivery schedules and problem resolution. Position Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or equivalent technical discipline is required (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred). Mechatronics & Gun background preferred. 5+ years of relevant military hardware product development experience is preferred; other relevant experience will be considered. Ability to effectively convey design options, solutions, issues and progress via formal presentations. Ability to apply sound Engineering Principles and Practices to management of technical issues. Strong leadership, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Able to manage and coordinate multiple projects and engineers to achieve customer satisfaction. Capable of interacting in a team‑based environment, working with various organizations throughout GDLS to include other engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, Finance, Material Acquisition, Field Support, Logistics, and Project management. Ability and willingness to travel when required to execute job functions. Commitment to team‑based development methods. Knowledge of ISO and CMMI standards. Ability to model complex systems in Cameo using sysml. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint). This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance.
