GEI has an outstanding senior-level opportunity in California to support our growing cultural resources practice and other environmental services. This hybrid office role can be based in Sacramento, Oakland, or Southern California offices. The position involves working closely with our team of archaeologists and architectural historians to pursue new project opportunities and successfully execute the work.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Lead cultural staff in meeting technical and financial project aspects, including developing schedules and maintaining deadlines.
Assist with administrative aspects of overseeing the cultural resources group, including staff supervision.
Win, lead, plan, and manage contracts for cultural resources services on a variety of water resources, environmental, and energy projects.
Serve as project manager and/or task leader managing technical, financial, and client relationship aspects.
Oversee preparation of technical analyses and reports for Section 106, CEQA, NEPA, and other environmental documents.
Identify, evaluate, and solve complex environmental and regulatory issues related to cultural resources management.
Mentor junior and mid-level staff and work closely with other senior-level archaeologists and architectural historians.
Work closely and collaboratively with environmental specialists, engineers, planners, and project managers to execute projects.
Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through client contact, professional organization participation, and presentations.
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Serve as a role model for leadership, company culture, and values.
Minimum Qualifications
MA, MS, or Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or Architectural History from an accredited institution.
10–15 years of relevant cultural resources compliance experience with increasing responsibility.
Experience in strategically planning, leading, and managing cultural resources projects and preparing documents.
Knowledge of regulatory issues related to water, environmental, and energy projects in California.
Strong reputation for high-quality work and regulatory problem solving.
Successful track record in business development and proposal preparation.
Outstanding problem solving, organization, coordination, writing, and communication skills.
Experience working independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Approximately 75% office/home office attendance and 25% field travel (negotiable).

Pay Range: $125,000–$150,000 per year with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
