Primary Function of Position The Future Forward group within Intuitive Surgical is searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help design the vision system for a novel robotic surgical platform. As an early member of the team, this role is an exciting opportunity to help define the eventual product from early prototypes through clinical trials and into product launch.

As part of the New Product Development team, the engineer will work with team members to:

Design mechanical components of optical systems including:

Simple lens mounts and alignments

Machined and injection molded components

Work with vendors to deliver initial prototypes through production parts

Assemble and test early prototypes and use results to improve next round of designs

Conduct modeling and simulation tasks of key design elements and use results to inform design

Finalize mechanical requirements and specifications for the design

Design tooling and fixtures for prototyping and testing

Support documentation of designs and test results

Required Skills and Experience

Hands‑on experience assembling and testing complex mechanical assemblies

Proficiency in CAD with strong preference for SolidWorks

Experience applying finite element analysis and other analysis methods to design of mechanical parts

Experience with GD&T and other related ASME/ISO drafting standards

Proven ability to work well with others

Required Education and Training

BS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
