Responsibilities NSWCPD MCS team is seeking an

Engineering Services Agent – Machinery Controls

to support shipboard and LBES testing efforts in support of the DDG HM&E Mid-Life Upgrades Program. The primary role of the

Engineering Services Agent

will be to provide lifecycle support of fielded Machinery Control Systems (MCS) on the USS ARLEIGH BURKE class of destroyer. This includes configuring, monitoring, and testing DDG51 MCS Software. The candidate should have experience as an electrical technician and the ability to troubleshoot control systems with the use of system documentation and electrical schematics. The candidate will be expected to provide documented status updates on a regular basis. Work hour expectations include availability for weekend support work, including onsite requirements for up to 10 hours a day during the week.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Troubleshoot control systems with the use of system documentation and electrical schematics

Provide test support for all variants of fielded systems at LBES

Provide test support for all variants of fielded systems shipboard

Provide shipboard software and hardware installation support of all variants of fielded systems at LBES and shipboard

Provide documented status updates on a regular basis

Act as a liaison between shipboard test team and technical leads back in Philadelphia

Maintain personal source of information between jobs and tasking

Aid in test procedure edits and implementation

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree

OR

Associate's degree and 3 years of experience

OR

High School diploma and 6 years of experience

2+ years of experience as an electrical technician or field technician as it pertains to control systems in an industrial environment

Experience tracing signals and diagnosing or isolating cause for electrical failures

Experience with grounded and ungrounded systems

Basic electrical troubleshooting skills to include the ability to use a digital multimeter

Basic electrical principles to include understanding the difference between current, voltage and resistance as well as how to effectively troubleshoot circuits containing them

Ability to read and understand electrical schematics

Attention to detail and meticulous logging of testing, troubleshooting steps, and findings

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise confidently and professionally with a diverse range of people

Sound analytical skills with an eye for detail; good problem solving ability and a practical approach

Effective time management skills

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to obtain one. US Citizenship is required.

Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.

This position requires 100% onsite workload at LBES, Ship Yards, and Naval Stations. It will be Mandatory to obtain and maintain necessary clearance for Ship Yards and Naval Stations.

Desired Qualifications

Advanced computer skills to include use of HyperTerminal, Putty, or an equivalent serial interface

Ability to use an oscilloscope and signal generator

Ability to use Wireshark for network data capture, analysis, and troubleshooting

US Navy shipboard experience in engineering department

Regular expected travel frequency away from your permanent location may be up to 30-50%

As required, off hour and weekend work will be expected to meet deliverables

Professional written and oral skills are required

Proficiency with a personal computer (PC)

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (especially Excel, Word, and Outlook)

The ability to learn new PC applications as needed

Reasonable problem solving ability

WORKING CONDITIONS The work is typically performed onboard US Navy Ships (pier side and at sea) and LBES, which requires proper safety precautions and ability to go up and down shipboard stairways (ladders); work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment.
