Position Overview World Book is seeking an experienced
Senior Accountant
to join our Finance team. This role plays a key part in supporting accounting processes and strategic finance initiatives, overseeing complex accounting areas, mentoring staff, and collaborating cross‑functionally to enhance processes, controls, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial close, reporting and compliance – prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
Oversee accounting for working capital, inventory, payroll, and advanced treatments around capitalization and amortization of software, pre‑publication and commissions.
Support tax filings, budgeting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
Business partnership and reporting – partner with and oversee planning and analysis for research & development and G&A functions; assist in variance analysis and management reporting.
Process improvement & controls – ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies, maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and audit readiness; recommend and implement accounting process improvements and automation opportunities, including ERP enhancements and data integrity.
Mentor staff accountant and other special projects as directed by Finance leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
Strong understanding of GAAP and excellent problem‑solving skills; CPA or progress toward certification is strongly preferred.
Drive for process improvement and attention to detail, ensuring mistake‑free work in a highly repeatable and scalable way.
Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP or equivalent) and Excel.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Location World Book maintains a hybrid work schedule with two days per week at the corporate headquarters located at 180 N. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60601.
Compensation $70,000 to $80,000 annual salary.
