Position Summary Serve as Chief Executive Officer of VOA Dakotas, a Christian-based nonprofit corporation, providing strategic leadership and overall direction in alignment with the national charter and local strategic plan. Oversee development and administration of programs and operations, ensuring resources are used to maximize benefit to clients and the community. Responsibilities include technical, financial, personnel, fundraising, and strategic planning leadership.
Essential Functions
Direct operations to ensure program efficiency, quality, and cost‑effective resource management.
Set infrastructure to meet evolving agency needs.
Maintain a culture that supports the mission, clients and staff.
Communicate a clear and compelling vision.
Represent the agency at legislative sessions, community meetings, formal functions, and media events.
Speak at conferences and collaborative meetings.
Serve on select boards and network locally, regionally and nationally.
Create and implement long‑range strategic planning processes.
Recommend and execute strategic initiatives.
Develop annual budgets for board approval.
Assess new opportunities through financial projections and ROI analysis.
Recruit, develop, and retain high‑performing leadership aligned with organizational mission.
Assess executive effectiveness and ensure thoughtful succession planning.
Encourage mutual respect, varied perspectives, and collaborative engagement across all levels of staff.
Cultivate relationships with board members, funders, affiliates, and community stakeholders.
Encourage team‑based decision making.
Foster new partnerships with corporations, foundations and major donors.
Recommend operational policy changes to the board.
Ensure compliance with all licensing and regulatory requirements.
Maintain charter standards and national alignment.
Keep the board informed of progress, activities, and challenges.
Guide governance, composition, and committee structure.
Partner with the Board Chair to develop agendas and identify new candidates.
Carry out other duties assigned due to expansion, modification, or reduction of agency services as requested by the Board of Directors.
Positions Qualifications
Education:
MA in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience (2 years is the equivalent of 1 year education).
Experience:
Minimum 10 years in senior leadership, preferably in nonprofit human services.
Skills:
Proven leadership, strategic planning, team building, financial management, and fundraising expertise.
Competencies:
Strong ethics, integrity, accountability, and ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Certifications & Licenses:
Must become a Commissioned Minister of VOA within 3 years; valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
Flexible hours and ability to work across diverse constituencies.
