Role Overview The

Director, Thought Leader Engagement (TLE) – West

serves as a critical partner to field teams, medical affairs, and cross‑functional teams to generate insights, shape sentiment, and build brand advocacy. Key duties include aligning insights with brand needs, tracking sentiment, and providing actionable intelligence to enable strategic launch planning and brand stewardship. The position covers the West region and requires travel to: MT, CO, WY, ID, UT, AZ, NV, CA, HI, OR, WA, AK.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a living document that profiles strategic academic and community customers, refreshed annually.

Identify and engage academic opinion leaders for insight generation and sentiment tracking.

Work with influential breast cancer treatment providers in key community accounts to build advocacy through relationship building, feedback synthesis, and strategic collaborations.

Provide actionable insights to cross‑functional field partners, HQ marketing, and medical affairs.

Assist HQ marketing in understanding market sentiment, treatment drivers/barriers, and generating insights for strategic launch planning.

Collaborate strategically with HQ marketing during annual brand planning.

Lead engagement planning at Tier 1 and Tier 2 congresses in collaboration with marketing, executive leadership, and cross‑functional partners.

Advise on consultant selection for advisory boards, 1:1 consulting, and strategic projects aligned with brand needs.

Track and manage speaker bureau impact per Gilead’s business conduct manual.

Lead and manage third‑party program vendors to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Act as a leader within the cross‑functional team through proactive communication and collaboration.

Collaborate with global and US medical strategy colleagues and OLP for customer engagement planning.

Effectively manage and track budget.

Basic Qualifications Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years’ experience,

or

Master’s Degree and 10 years’ experience,

or

PhD and 8 years’ experience.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to travel as required within the assigned area.

Must satisfy any onsite visitation requirements of healthcare practitioners.

The employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made.

Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Qualifications

People leadership experience.

Minimum 5 years of oncology experience.

Minimum 3 years’ pharmaceutical marketing experience.

Oncology launch experience.

Knowledge and experience in the breast cancer market.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strategic thinking and execution capabilities.

Experience leading cross‑functional teams.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Willingness to travel up to 50%, including overnights and some evening/weekend programs.

Salary & Benefits Salary range: $205,615.00 – $266,090.00. Additional compensation may include discretionary annual bonus, stock‑based long‑term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company‑sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
