Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) The position is responsible for routine Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance management for 13 geothermal power generation facilities, steam fields, and other ancillary facilities. Responsible for technical work in a wide range of EHS disciplines to maintain compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, consensus industry standards, and organization EHS procedures. Reviews and interprets EHS rules and regulations and advises management accordingly. Coordinates compliance assurance activities with multi-media environmental programs, including air emissions, wastewater discharge, waste management, and associated monitoring, reporting, and other permit requirements. Reviews plant EHS procedures and makes recommendations for updates according to laws and regulations and best practices. Investigates EHS incidents, accidents, injuries, and near miss events. Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize the hazardous potential. Works well within a team, and takes direction from EHS subject matter experts. Prepares and maintains all necessary EHS compliance documents and records. Job Responsibilities: Complete compliance and reporting tasks for major programs, including Hazardous Waste Management, Air Compliance, Wastewater Compliance, SPCC, and Incident Investigations. Track EHS compliance audit status and ensure timely & accurate completion of corrective actions. Compile and submit internal and external reports as specified by EHS requirements. Prepare and maintain safety and environmental documents and records. Investigate safety and environmental incidents as necessary. Develop, revise, and/or implement site-specific EHS procedures according to new updated regulatory standards or change in power plant practices. Partner with operations to build trust and buy-in to improve employee engagement in hazard recognition. Participate in Geysers Safety Committees. Perform site EHS inspections, including those that are regulatory driven such as hazardous waste inspections. Drive EHS risk recognition and mitigation by assessing and communicating physical, operational, and regulatory risks to management. Support continuous learning through identification of EHS best practices and timely and relevant communications. Develop and/or provide site-specific EHS training. Manage regulatory required plans such as SPCC and Hazardous Materials Business Plan. Support plant emergency response activities, as required. Make decisions regarding own work, often in ambiguous situations. Make recommendations regarding own function/discipline with little instruction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new assignments. Willing to seek out assistance and/or clarification. May be designated project or technical lead for an ongoing process or short-term project. Other duties may be assigned. Job Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Environmental Sciences or Occupational Safety preferred. 4+ years’ experience in EHS in an industrial environment, such as chemical manufacturing or oil & gas. Experience in the power industry is preferred. Certified Safety Profession (CSP) strongly preferred. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to EHS. Ability to travel overnight 5% of the time and utilize company vehicle to travel between the local Geysers facilities routinely.
