August 2025 – June 2026 with potential renewal for July 2026 – June 2027 Pay Range:
$35.00 per hour
Primary Purpose This position is responsible for administering first aid and preventive and rehabilitative treatment to student‑athletes involved in various inter‑collegiate sports; and maintaining and operating the campus training room clinic.
Essential Functions
Administers emergency first aid to student athletes; performs orthopedic evaluations and assessments of injuries to formulate a clinical diagnosis.
Establishes treatment plans of care based on the clinical diagnosis and evidence‑based practice; refers injured student athletes to a physician according to established procedures.
Creates and implements rehabilitative exercises; administers therapeutic equipment such as whirlpool, ultrasound, and other modalities; informs coaches of condition and status of injured athletes.
Facilitates pre‑season intercollegiate health screening and clearances for injured student athletes during sport season.
Provides medical coverage for athletic events, administers emergency first aid, and applies prophylactic taping techniques for musculoskeletal injuries before, during, and after practice or games.
Maintains and operates the athletic training facility; cleans therapeutic equipment; facilitates maintenance and calibration of therapeutic modalities and equipment; manages inventory and places equipment/supply orders as needed.
Selects, designs, and fits safety padding and other devices; monitors safety factors on playing areas, addressing hazards as needed.
Trains and provides work direction and guidance to others as directed; supervises health care and medical team members.
Provides education to student athletes regarding injury care, prevention, and treatment programs; monitors mental health, nutrition, and general wellbeing issues and refers to appropriate professionals.
Performs all aspects of health care administration, including maintaining policies, medical records, emergency action plans, filing insurance claims, scheduling appointments, and ensuring communication with health care professionals and athletic staff.
Applies evidence‑based practice, researches current methods of treatment, and maintains required certifications and staff continuing education.
Participates in district/college efforts to increase diversity and address student achievement gaps; attends diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings and events.
Facilitates individual and group safety by monitoring environmental conditions and responding appropriately.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Working Relationships The Athletic Therapist maintains frequent contact with student athletes, physicians, physical therapists, co‑workers, and vendors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of athletic injury symptoms, treatment, and evidence‑based preventive and rehabilitative techniques.
Knowledge of physiology, kinesiology, anatomy, and first aid principles.
Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in team and individual sports.
Knowledge of record‑keeping techniques and adherence to NATA Code of Ethics.
Ability to evaluate and treat a variety of athletic and school‑related injuries.
Ability to administer advanced first aid and operate therapeutic modalities and exercise equipment.
Ability to apply prophylactic taping techniques, protective devices, and pads.
Ability to maintain comprehensive injury management records, manage inventory, and plan, organize, and prioritize work.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Special Requirements
CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Athletic Trainer Certified Credential through the Board of Certification and maintenance of state practice laws.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with courses in Health, Human Anatomy, Kinesiology/Biomechanics, Human Physiology, Physiology of Exercise, and Athletic Training.
Current NATABOC registration and/or certification (BOC up‑to‑date).
Sufficient related training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed.
Commitment to diversity; demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender‑identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
Desirable Qualifications
Master’s Degree from an accredited college.
Completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
Prior experience in equitable interactions with colleagues and/or students, and ability to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Working Conditions Indoor and outdoor athletic and physical education environment; subject to inclement weather and travel to athletic games; exposure to blood, cleaning agents including bleach, sharp objects, scissors, scalpels, knives, lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted), standing, bending, walking, and running.
Salary Certified Athletic Trainer (PE): $35/hour
