Leadership & Management Communication Chapman University, a highly regarded, private institution in the heart of Southern California, seeks a highly strategic, collaborative enrollment leader who embraces innovation and is prepared to help Chapman reach new heights to serve as the Vice President of Enrollment Management. Chapman University, founded in 1861, is a nationally ranked, mid-sized private institution, known for its commitment to excellence through innovative teaching and research, as well as its distinctive approach to personalized education. Located just 15 miles from the beach in the City of Orange, California, Chapman’s Orange campus is close to industry leaders in fields from science to screenwriting that jumpstart and propel student careers. The Rinker Health Sciences campus serves graduate students in nearby Irvine, California, which is home to numerous hospitals, labs, and medical and pharmaceutical businesses. The institution has experienced unprecedented growth during the last 30 years, evolving from a regional college with approximately 2,000 students to a nationally ranked, R2 comprehensive research university of nearly 10,000 students. During this time, Chapman has benefited from the leadership of its current Vice President of Enrollment Management, who will retire in October 2025 after 39 years at the university. Chapman’s academic excellence and momentum are supported by its healthy financial position, a result of careful planning and the thoughtful stewardship of university assets. The university’s endowment exceeds $900 million and has been amongst one of the fastest-growing university endowments in the country. Additionally, Chapman has raised over $400 million toward its half a billion dollar Inspire campaign goal illustrating the support and excitement that exists for its future and the execution of the university’s strategic plan – Our Path to Greatness. It is, indeed, an exciting time to join the Chapman Family as Matt Parlow begins his tenure as Chapman’s next president on September 2, 2025, and starts to build his senior leadership team to advance Chapman in dynamic and meaningful ways. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff, the Vice President of Enrollment Management (VPEM) will lead a team of nearly 100 enrollment professionals across Undergraduate and Graduate Admission, Financial Aid, the Registrar, International Student Services, and Veterans’ Resources. As the chief strategist and executive responsible for leading a comprehensive, data informed enrollment strategy aligned with Chapman’s mission, values, and strategic plan, the VPEM will ensure the university meets its enrollment and net tuition revenue goals while building on the excellence and commitment of the students and faculty in its 11 schools and colleges. In particular, the VPEM will be asked to create and implement a strategic enrollment plan that will accelerate Chapman’s ascent; cultivate and deepen relationships across the university that contribute to enrollment success; help to strengthen Chapman’s messaging and elevate its brand among prospective students, families, and other stakeholders; and support and develop a talented and committed staff, building on the team’s success through innovation and a commitment to continual growth and improvement. The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking strategist and ambitious leader who, with knowledge of industry best practices and market trends, has a track record of elevating institutions to new heights. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be open to ideas and insights from campus partners – including the university’s schools and colleges – and integrate them into a cohesive enrollment strategy. Other key assets for this role include: skill in identifying new opportunities for strategic growth; expertise in leveraging data, technology, and financial aid resources to optimize results; experience collaborating with central marketing to develop an integrated marketing and communications strategy that supports recruitment efforts and effectively positions and differentiates the university among its competitors; and an ability to guide strategies to meet and exceed net tuition revenue goals that accentuate Chapman’s strong financial position and a high quality student experience. It will also be important for the VPEM to have an understanding and appreciation for Chapman’s mission, institutional culture, and the highly personalized, student-centric approach it takes to education. Being a team player is essential, as Chapman’s culture is deeply collaborative and relationship-driven, and the institution’s senior leadership pulls together and works well as a team. Authenticity, an interest in personally engaging with students and families, and a commitment to treating all people with care, dignity, and respect will be essential for success.
