Role Overview The role of the Sales Engineer requires a deep understanding of the challenges of building, launching, and operating small satellites. With an emphasis on our Space Services offering, you will build intimate knowledge of the Spire satellite subsystems, payload capabilities, and system interfaces critical to customers seeking to deploy systems onto our network. Successful candidates will have a good balance of technical experience along with strong communication, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a customer-focused environment. The role involves supporting business-winning campaigns on commercial and government business, owning the technical requirements negotiation, and ensuring that customer mission objectives can be achieved with the offered solution. This role will be the senior technical representative of the company to our International Government customers and will be comfortable presenting to executive levels in high-pressure situations.
What You'll Do As a Sales Engineer focused on our Space Services offering, you will join a growing team responsible for providing unique space-based solutions to the commercial market. You will engage directly with the Spire Account Executives, Business Development Managers, and customer base to understand operational requirements, qualify opportunities, and design space-driven solutions. You will collaborate closely with the satellite architect and engineering colleagues to develop customer-driven solutions leveraging Spire’s small satellite platforms, payloads, and global infrastructure.
Lead within a team to support sales discussions with Space Services customers, assess requirements, and design optimal solutions.
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the Space Services customer throughout the sales cycle.
Lead the preparation and delivery of technical presentations and reports explaining Spire’s products and services to prospective customers.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to assess feasibility, refine scope, and represent customer requirements within the organization during the sales cycle.
Act as a liaison between sales and engineering teams, providing product updates and training to sales staff.
Develop technical proposals and generate or source content tailored to customer applications to meet deadlines and sales goals.
Identify capability gaps with the sales team and product managers to inform the technology roadmap and enhance offerings.
Support initial program execution through the System Requirements Review, documenting customer requirements and facilitating a smooth transition from sales to implementation.
Who You Are You are a seasoned technical professional with experience in customer-facing roles, specializing in satellite mission design, development, and testing. With a strong background in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering—or equivalent experience—you excel at understanding complex customer needs and delivering innovative solutions. Your leadership, communication, and presentation skills enable you to engage effectively with executive stakeholders. Proficient in satellite design, orbital simulation tools like AGI STK, and remote sensing, you understand mission design trades, RF spectrum considerations, and payload capabilities. You thrive in cross-functional environments, leveraging your expertise and interpersonal skills to build strong client relationships and ensure mission success.
Extensive experience in customer-facing technical roles.
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent.
Leadership experience in managing teams.
Proven ability to present technical content to senior/executive management.
Experience with satellite mission design, development, and testing, understanding major design trades and scope drivers (power, payload, communications, ground stations, launch, EMI/EMC, thermal management).
Knowledge of satellite design and orbital simulation software (e.g., AGI STK).
Familiarity with satellite remote sensing and Earth observation techniques.
Understanding of RF spectrum, especially related to RF payload receivers.
Experience in writing technical reports and proposals.
Strong interpersonal skills for client engagement and cross-team communication.
Ability to quickly understand complex customer requirements and develop thorough solutions.
Spire operates a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office. Access to US export-controlled software and technology may be necessary; if so, Spire will arrange licenses as needed. #LI-JP1
The anticipated base salary range is $130,500 — $171,000 USD, with final compensation based on location, skills, experience, and qualifications. Additional benefits include equity awards, vacation, health coverage, 401(k), wellness programs, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
