Senior Marine Structural Engineer
specializing in marine infrastructure projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to act as an internal engineer at Kiewit, utilizing our resources and expertise to ensure design work adheres to the best constructability standards. The Senior Marine Structural Engineer will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including coastal, civil, and geotechnical engineers, as well as estimators, schedulers, and construction professionals to deliver services for MCR projects. Responsibilities include leading preliminary and detailed structural design efforts, supporting engineering integration, managing design, mentoring team members, and contributing to estimating, scheduling, and planning. The role also involves engaging with Operating Districts to build strong relationships and understand their engineering needs in marine, ports, maritime, and coastal projects. The ideal candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, collaboration, and leadership to meet project quality and safety goals. Location This position is based in our Houston, TX office. Responsibilities Lead structural analysis and design for marine structures such as piers, floating docks, sea walls, wharfs, and mooring dolphins. Develop detailed construction drawings and specifications. Prepare technical reports and documentation. Ensure accuracy of design deliverables. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure project success. Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction. Identify design risks and assist with mitigation planning. Facilitate collaboration with construction teams during design to optimize constructability. Manage projects and mentor engineers. Contribute to technical proposals and develop internal tools and processes for the MCR team. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering or equivalent; a master’s degree is a plus. 12+ years of experience in marine structural engineering. Experience with marine structures like piers, docks, sea walls, wharfs, and mooring dolphins. Experience with berthing and mooring analysis and design of marine fenders. Knowledge of marine terminal operations. Experience with project delivery models involving contractors (e.g., Design-Build). Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Proficiency in English; Spanish or French skills are an asset.
