About the Job The

Global Head of Consumer Science

is a pivotal leader in shaping Opella’s ambitions to be consumer‑centric in making health as simple as it should be and delivering outstanding consumer experiences that support self‑care. This role is responsible for defining and implementing the overall consumer science strategy, ensuring that technical consumer insight and true product reasons to believe are built throughout our product development cycle. The successful candidate will drive the creation of superior consumer experiences through building the consumer‑centric culture across R&D, developing new approaches to unlocking technical product insights, and supporting teams to deliver outstanding consumer experiences making self‑care easier for consumers across the science that supports our brands.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership for the Consumer Science function:

Lead the global consumer science work programme and engage the full consumer science team in driving the strategy forward.

Collaborate closely with Opella’s CXI team (Marketing Insights Team), Development Centres, and key functions including Public Relations, Regulatory, Manufacturing & Supply, Procurement and Quality.

Develop a high‑performing team across the science hub: establish objectives and development goals, build a talent pipeline, foster a learning culture, build leadership capabilities, promote professional growth, and build strong relationships with key transversal partners.

Insight, Strategy & Capability Development:

Oversee all aspects related to Sensory Testing and Consumer and Product research, ensuring consumer‑centric product development.

Co‑own the relationship with Flavor Houses and identify new technologies for consumer engagement.

Implement the consumer‑centricity programme to ensure R&D teams possess consumer empathy.

Innovation & Roadmap Integration:

Engage with Opella’s broader innovation community to guide new product and solution offerings, focusing on best insight identification.

Scout the external environment for cutting‑edge consumer science approaches and bring in external science opportunities.

Key Accountabilities

Operationalise Consumer Science: drive delivery of superior consumer experiences through sensory lab testing, online engagement, technology partnerships and consumer engagement programmes.

Develop all consumer/product research to inform product development, improvement and life‑cycle management.

Manage the consumer science budget and vendor relationships.

Consumer Science Capability Build & Growth

Collaborate with CXI to develop core deliverables such as situational analyses.

Use qualitative and quantitative research methodology to inform key decisions.

Build a consumer‑centric culture across the R&D organisation.

Fundamentals & Key Working Relationships

Digital evolution: strategy that supports consistent reporting & data consolidation.

Follow industry and pre‑defined standards to ensure legal and ethical approaches to Consumer Science.

Nurture key working relationships: Innovation Teams, Development Centres, CXI, Regulatory and Medical, Regional Science Hub leaders, Brand R&D leads and Innovation leads.

About You

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in relevant field.

Strong leadership expertise and experience leading teams and matrix organisations.

10+ years of product research experience, ideally with a leading FMCG or Consumer Health company.

Experience in conducting Sensory tests and managing Consumers and Expert Panels.

Experience in leading the technical evaluation of products versus competition.

Knowledge of qualitative & quantitative research methodologies.

Knowledge of insight approaches including market monitoring, surveillance, competitive pipelines, etc.

Location & Language Skills

Location is in France (Paris) or USA (Morristown).

Fluent spoken and written English.

An additional language (particularly French) is desirable.

Salary Range For This Position Is 190,000.00 - 260,000.00 USD Annual. All compensation will be determined commensurate with demonstrated experience. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programmes. Additional benefits information can be found through the LINK.
