Job Overview Gilead Sciences is a global biopharmaceutical leader focused on creating therapies that help improve lives and ensure access to these therapies worldwide. The Director, Thought Leader Engagement (TLE) – South Central will engage with thought leaders in academic and community oncology settings to support current and future breast cancer portfolio initiatives.

Role This role is part of the marketing organization in Gilead Oncology and is responsible for building relationships with key opinion leaders, strategic partners, and community influencers across the South Central region (TN, MS, MI, IA, WI, MN, SD, ND, IL, MO, KS, NE, LA, AR, OK, TX, NM). Travel to the listed states is expected, with some overnight travel.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Profiling: Create and maintain an annual living document profiling strategic academic and community customers.

Engage Academic Opinion Leaders: Identify, engage, and collaborate with academic OLs for insight generation, advocacy development, and sentiment tracking.

Community Influencer Engagement: Build long‑term relationships with breast‑cancer treaters, synthesize feedback, design strategic collaborations, and share insights with cross‑functional partners.

Pre‑Launch Support: Assist headquarters marketing in understanding market sentiment, treatment drivers/barriers, and deliver insights for strategic launch planning.

Annual Brand Planning: Collaborate with headquarters marketing during brand planning cycles.

Congress Strategy: Lead OL/customer engagement planning at Tier 1 and Tier 2 congresses with marketing, executive leadership, and cross‑functional partners.

Consultant Selection: Advise on selection for advisory boards, 1:1 consulting, and strategic projects aligned with brand needs.

Speaker Bureau Oversight: Track and manage speaker‑bureau impact in accordance with Gilead’s business conduct manual.

Vendor Management: Lead and manage third‑party program vendors to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Cross‑Functional Leadership: Serve as a proactive leader within cross‑functional teams through communication and collaboration.

Headquarters Collaboration: Work compliantly with global and U.S. medical strategy colleagues and OLP for customer engagement planning.

Budget Management: Track and manage the program budget efficiently.

Basic Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of experience

OR

Master’s Degree and 10 years of experience

OR

PhD and 8 years of experience .

Travel: Ability to travel regularly within the assigned area and for other required travel.

On‑site Visits: Ability to meet onsite visitation requirements of healthcare practitioners, including vaccinations, drug and background screenings, or other applicable requirements.

Legal: Must hold a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

People leadership experience.

At least 5 years of oncology experience.

At least 3 years of pharmaceutical marketing experience.

Oncology launch experience.

Knowledge of the breast‑cancer market.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Strategic thinking and execution capabilities.

Experience leading cross‑functional teams.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Willingness to travel up to 50%, including over‑nights and some evening/weekend programs.

Compensation The salary range for this position is: $205,615.00 – $266,090.00. The compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location. The position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, stock‑based long‑term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package.
