Position Summary We are seeking a Digital Account Director who will serve as a strategic leader for our digital programs, with particular experience in email strategy development and execution. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast‑paced agency environment and can confidently lead the creative process from concept to implementation, developing content strategies, managing production workflows, and ensuring alignment with client goals. The ideal candidate will bring a sharp strategic mindset and the ability to translate complex marketing objectives into actionable, high‑impact digital deliverables.
Digital Account Director Responsibilities Email & Digital Strategy Leadership
Lead sophisticated email programs from strategic planning through execution and optimization, ensuring alignment with client goals and donor engagement best practices.
Develop strategic email calendars that integrate with broader fundraising initiatives, including sustainor programs, emergency response campaigns, reactivation efforts, and advocacy mobilization.
Lead audience segmentation strategies and testing frameworks to continuously optimize donor journeys and maximize program performance.
Direct creative development with a focus on compelling storytelling, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and messaging while maximizing engagement and conversion across fundraising, advocacy, and retention emails.
Direct the day‑to‑day creative process, from concept through implementation including drafting briefs, managing copy and design development, QA, and approvals.
Collaborate with internal teams, partner agencies, and freelancers to deliver assets on time and on budget.
Program & Campaign Management
Translate complex digital marketing strategies into clear, actionable implementation plans for internal and external stakeholders.
Lead integrated, multi‑channel digital campaigns that seamlessly coordinate email, paid digital media (social, search, programmatic), and landing page/web content.
Ensure seamless coordination between digital and direct mail strategies to support holistic donor journeys.
Manage timelines, budgets, and team resources to ensure quality, accuracy, and on‑time delivery.
Client Partnership & Strategic Advisory
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned nonprofit clients, managing day‑to‑day communications and building deep relationships and understanding of organizational missions and goals.
Present strategic recommendations, creative concepts, and performance in a clear, confident, and professional manner.
Proactively identify opportunities for program innovation, optimization, and growth based on performance data, industry trends, and client objectives.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with account, creative, media, and analytics teams.
Performance & Analytics
Lead the development of campaign reporting and analysis, synthesizing performance into actionable insights.
Apply performance learnings to improve creative direction, segmentation, testing strategies, and donor engagement across all digital touchpoints.
Monitor emerging trends in email marketing, digital fundraising, and donor behavior to maintain cutting‑edge strategies for client programs.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of digital marketing and fundraising experience, with a focus on email strategy and program management.
Prior experience in a direct response agency or nonprofit marketing team strongly preferred. Experience with progressive or crisis response fundraising is a plus!
Demonstrated success managing email programs from strategic planning through creative execution and reporting.
Strong copywriting and/or creative direction experience; ability to guide content teams with a focus on fundraising performance and brand alignment.
Understanding of segmentation, donor lifecycles, audience engagement, and testing frameworks.
Confident communicator with excellent organizational, project management, and client‑facing skills.
Adept at managing multiple concurrent campaigns and deadlines.
Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams and bringing structure to fast‑moving workflows.
Desired Skills & Tools
Experience with platforms such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Pardot, MailChimp, Eloqua, Klaviyo, Fundraise Up, GoFundMePro/Classy, or similar platforms is essential.
Understanding of SMS/MMS marketing strategy and platforms a plus.
Familiarity with paid digital media strategy, including Meta, Google Ads, and DSPs such as StackAdapt.
Basic knowledge of Google Analytics (GA4), Google Tag Manager, and Data Studio preferred. SEO fundamentals a plus.
This is a remote job; preference given to those in New York City who can come into the office regularly. If outside the area, quarterly travel to NYC is expected as well as occasional travel to client sites.
