Product Engineer (Tax & Banking) | Seattle Base pay range: $120,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

About Us Today’s financial system is built to favor those with money. Grid’s mission is to level that playing field by building financial products that help users better manage their financial future. The Grid app lets users access cash, build credit, spend money, optimize their taxes, and lots, lots more. Grid is a fast-growing team that’s deeply passionate about making a difference in the lives of millions. We’re solving huge problems and believe that every team member has a big role to play. Come join our growing team in our San Francisco office! Grid is also expanding to Seattle, and we’re looking for engineers who can help scale our tax product (PayBoost) while ensuring reliability, data quality, and visibility.

The Role A tax refund is essentially an interest‑free loan to the government. The average American overpays their taxes by $3,000 per year. We plan to change that by providing an AI‑enabled automated tax specialist for the 80% of Americans that receive a tax refund. As a Product Engineer, you’ll help monetize and scale this product, working closely with business operations and the core services engineering team.

What You Will Be Doing

Backend Development: Build product features end‑to‑end—domain models, business logic, and API integrations—to make our product just work for customers.

Deployment & Iteration: Practice a dynamic, data‑driven approach to product development, delivering bold milestones in well‑engineered, incremental releases.

Data Analysis: Utilize SQL and analysis tools to evaluate product and system performance regularly.

Debugging Evented Systems: Test and debug complex state machines in our pub/sub‑based backend to ensure a seamless user experience.

Shipping to Production: Own implementations end‑to‑end and respond to production incidents with a rapid CI/CD process.

About You

Backend Software Engineer: 5+ years of experience writing consumer‑grade backend software, ideally in Go (Golang) deployed on GCP.

Startup Person: Thrive in high‑growth environments, comfortable with dynamic decision‑making and iterative approaches.

Experience with FinTech or other complex domains: End‑to‑end understanding of product engineering in an environment such as financial services, health, insurance, etc.

Customer‑centric: Prioritize users and simplify complex processes, aiming for a lightweight and enjoyable UX.

Data‑oriented Backends: Proven experience in evented systems, data acquisition (screen scraping, crawling), data normalization, and API integration.

Autonomy & Initiative: Work independently, take ownership, and proactively identify key leverage points for data products.

Curiosity & Optimism: Constantly ask why the world works the way it does and seek to change it.

Self‑Starter: Prioritize work and deliver demonstrable results on a tight cadence.

Domain Knowledge: Experience or understanding of web scrapers, data acquisition and normalization; familiarity with the tax code or financial modeling is nice but not required.
