Job Summary Responsible for the safe and effective operation of computerized mobile cranes—operating friction cranes, lattice boom crawlers, and stationary or traveling cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The operator receives direction from riggers and/or site supervision via verbal or hand signals.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Valid driver’s license.

Experience

Five (5) years of verifiable crane operating experience.

3–5 years in heavy civil projects.

Preferred: pile‑driving and leading crews.

Prior rigging, signaling, and bridge operations experience.

Experience in environments with military services, commercial agencies, or host nations is preferred.

Additional training: Equipment Operator certification from the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) or equivalent.

Skills

Clear verbal and written communication.

Ability to read and interpret heavy construction plans.

Team collaboration and high‑demand work capability.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ANSI crane standards.

Certification to operate computerized mobile cranes up to 80 tons.

Responsibilities

Maintain safe and productive crane operations, including routine maintenance.

Inspect work sites to ensure worker safety.

Support structural operations—forming substructures, setting steel and concrete girders, placing reinforced concrete decks.

Check crane radius and setup before operations begin.

Provide input on lift plans, means, and methods.

Collaborate with foreman on safety and toolbox talks.

Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections and basic maintenance of crane and rigging.

Notify chain of command of any crane or rigging defects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands / Working Environment

Ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and work safely around equipment and supplies.

Work outdoors for long periods in varying seasons and conditions.

Long hours and exposure to strenuous conditions.

Ability to work overtime and be flexible with hours (day, night, weekend).

Climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, operate on barges, piers, vessels, etc.

Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull for varying amounts of time.

Hourly Rates

$25–$45 per hour, commensurate with experience.
