This position is for a full-time surgery coordinator with excellent customer service orientation and strong critical thinking skills. The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of surgery process including, but not limited to insurance verification, pre-operative certifications/ authorizations, scheduling patients for any pre-operative labs, testing and coordination of post-surgery care. Individual must possess the ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks, work as a team to accomplish practice goals, and maintain strong organizational skills. Possibility for a hybrid-role. RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules inpatient and outpatient procedures, utilizing appropriate provider, time and location schedules. Provides patients with accurate and detailed information regarding pre-op instructions, time of scheduled arrival time, payment due at time of service, additional out-of-pocket costs, and post-op information. Takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients. Verifies patient's insurance eligibility and benefits. Obtains the correct authorization or call reference numbers - Documents information in corresponding patient charts accordingly. Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing, as needed. Proactively addresses potential scheduling conflicts, makes changes as needed. Notifies Physician and staff of special instructions/notes via patient chart alerts and e-mail communication as needed. Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for upcoming procedures and surgeries. Responsible for completing or coordinating pre-procedure phone calls. Promotes positive relationships with other departments, physicians and surgery center staff members. Assists other members of the department as needed. Cross trains in other departments as needed. All other tasks as assigned. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in healthcare industry and patient scheduling, preferred. Advanced knowledge of Insurance, IPA and Authorization process. Workers Compensation knowledge and working experience preferred. Adheres to HIPAA, privacy, confidentiality and safety guidelines per office polices and protocol. Fundamental knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Typical Physical Demands Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Good hand – eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment is also required. Employee must have normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and may need to lift up to 15 pounds.
