Executive Director of the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) and Associate Dean for Diagnostic Operations and Government Relations at the College of Veterinary Medicine. The AHDC operates as the New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory in partnership with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. It promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food- and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations.

The AHDC, as

a Level 1 laboratory of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network, provides surveillance and diagnostic testing for important domestic and transboundary diseases in coordination with the USDA National Veterinary Services Laboratories. The AHDC is a member of the Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network, which assists the Food and Drug Administration in the surveillance of animal feeds and drugs. The AHDC is a service enterprise fully integrated into the academic and service mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine. It has an operating budget of $40 million, employs over 250 people, and maintains over 7,000 active accounts of clinics and practicing veterinarians submitting samples from throughout the U.S. and internationally. In 2024, over 300,000 submissions were received, generating nearly 1 million test codes and millions of tests. The testing services are supported by a strong commitment to basic research, focusing on emerging threats and disease understanding. The

Executive Director of the AHDC and Associate Dean for Diagnostic Operations and Government Relations

provides leadership and strategic direction for all laboratory programs, liaises with state and federal government offices, and represents CVM interests. Responsibilities include supervising diagnostic activities, providing performance feedback to academic appointments, and supporting communication and coordination with government agencies. The incumbent reports to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and collaborates with the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences and other college leaders. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent, with significant professional veterinary or animal health experience and at least 5 years of administrative experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory or similar organization. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential. Active involvement in national veterinary diagnostic organizations (e.g., AAVLD) and experience with government agencies or legislative offices are desirable. Title and rank depend on qualifications and experience. The salary range is $200,000 - $250,000, commensurate with credentials and experience. To apply, visit
