Deaconess Hospital offers a one-year fellowship in hospitalist medicine. Ideal candidates are
family physicians
seeking to enhance their inpatient medicine and procedural skills, as well as internists wanting to refresh their inpatient knowledge. Didactic lectures combined with supervised patient care, aligned with Society of Hospital Medicine guidelines. As a tertiary referral center serving nearly 900,000 people across three states, Deaconess provides diverse pathology exposure. Teaching and supervision are primarily provided by the Deaconess Care Group, an 18-physician hospitalist team covering our two acute care hospitals and a specialty heart hospital 24/7/365. Our open ICU model offers valuable critical care experience, with a balance of primary admitting and consultative roles. The fellowship is affiliated with our family medicine residency program supporting 18 residents over three years. Fellowship responsibilities include supervising residents and medical students, enriching the teaching hospital environment. Rotations with specialists in pulmonary/critical care, nephrology, cardiology, infectious disease, and others are key strengths of our program. Employment opportunities are available with our hospitalist group for successful candidates, with competitive compensation comparable to other PGY 4 fellowships. Position Details
