Employment Type: Faculty Internal Job Category: Tenure Track (Faculty) Full-Time Department: College of Medicine Hours: N/A Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Foundational and Clinical Sciences (FCS) at Belmont University's Thomas F. Frist, Jr. College of Medicine (FCoM) is responsible for developing and overseeing clinical experiences and affiliations supporting the educational mission. This includes cultivating relationships with clinical partners like HCA Healthcare and the TriStar Division in Nashville, ensuring high-quality clinical learning aligned with standards, and maintaining partnerships between academic and clinical entities. Job functions include: Providing leadership in clinical affiliations, especially with HCA Healthcare/TriStar hospitals. Serving as liaison with HCA Healthcare and chairing the FCoM/HCA Advisory Committee. Collaborating with course and clerkship directors to meet educational objectives. Developing frameworks for evaluating clinical experiences. Facilitating faculty development programs for community-based physicians and clinical faculty. Overseeing recruitment and development of clinical preceptors. Monitoring clinical learning environments and student feedback. Working with the Vice Chair of Educational Affairs to integrate foundational science into clinical training. Affiliation and Partnership Management: Developing relationships with healthcare organizations, hospitals, and clinics. Addressing supervision, assessment, and professional identity issues. Negotiating agreements for clinical placements. Addressing challenges in balancing training and clinical service needs. Mitigating conflicts of interest with community-based faculty. Exploring new clinical education opportunities, including interprofessional and longitudinal experiences. Strategic Planning and Leadership: Aligning clinical education priorities with Belmont University's mission and values. Contributing to strategic planning to enhance clinical experiences and partnerships. Representing FCoM in external discussions. Advocating for student well-being and professional growth. Promoting a sense of unity and belonging in clinical learning environments. Minimum Qualifications: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited medical school; faculty appointment or eligibility at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor; expertise in undergraduate medical education, clinical faculty engagement, and external partnerships; leadership experience in clinical education; understanding of accreditation standards; ability to build effective relationships. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with HCA Healthcare or similar networks; leadership at departmental or institutional levels; knowledge of supervision, assessment, and competency-based education; commitment to a Christ-centered, student-focused, and mission-driven culture. Education and Experience: MD, DO, or equivalent; demonstrated expertise in UME, faculty engagement, external partnerships; leadership experience in clinical education within community-based or academic health systems.
