Job Description Provides assistance to the surgical team during surgical procedures. Assists in the orientation process of all new operating room employees as assigned.
Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring that proper technical practices are employed according to accepted standards of process.
Provides proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques of specialty instrumentation.
Assists Registered Professional Nurses in implementing the intra-operative phase of nursing practice.
Performs the duties of a scrub or circulating person, following departmental policies and procedures for these respective duties.
Compiles accurate and complete documentation of surgical cases on the operating room record when performing duties of the circulating person.
Participates in the orientation of new operating room personnel. Engages in staff development through in-service education, conferences, and research projects.
Participates in hospital committees as requested and accepts on-call rotations.
Performs job functions with a customer service focus emphasizing innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide high-quality care.
Demonstrates knowledge of protocols related to chemical disinfection, high-level disinfection, and sterilization as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a Surgical Technologist Program (required).
Previous experience as an operating room technician preferred.
Certification as a surgical technologist (required, attach to profile).
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required, attach to profile).
Education High School Diploma/GED (Required). Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
