Pathologists' Assistant - Per Diem - Sunset Park

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pathologists' Assistant - Per Diem - Sunset Park. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens, as well as preparation of tissue for various pathological tests including frozen section diagnosis, histology, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry staining. Job Responsibilities:
Recognize potential hazards in the workplace and follow proper procedures for handling hazardous substances. Additional training is provided for disposal of hazardous waste in the Histology Department. Perform gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens, including large cancer cases, and dictate data accordingly. Evaluate tissues for sampling, especially in large cancer cases, and select tissue sections for microscopic analysis, including cutting bone specimens with a bone saw. Prepare frozen sections for pathologists and assist with ancillary studies like culture and flow cytometry. Conduct postmortem examinations, including external exams, organ inspection, dissection, and recording data such as organ weights and findings. Photograph surgical specimens as assigned and maintain photographic equipment. Ensure proper specimen handling, maintain cleanliness and order in the surgical cutting area, and manage inventory of supplies. Handle hazardous materials safely and accept changes in work assignments willingly. Complete tasks within designated timeframes, perform other duties as assigned, and assess patients' communication abilities, providing interpreters or involving family as needed. Minimum Qualifications:
B.A. from a NAACLS-accredited Pathology Assistant training program. Related experience in surgical pathology, gross dissection, and frozen sections preferred. Licensed by the NYS Department of Education as a Pathologists' Assistant. Required License:
NYS-Pathologist Assistant License. Additional Information:
