Muncie is a mid-sized city known for being home to Ball State University, a major educational and cultural hub. Historically, it gained prominence as the "Middletown" of America due to sociological studies in the 1920s that analyzed typical American life. The city has a strong manufacturing heritage, with the Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company playing a key role in its development. Muncie offers a mix of small-town charm and modern amenities, with attractions like the Minnetrista cultural center and Cardinal Greenway trail. Its vibrant arts scene, affordable living, and university influence make it an attractive place for residents and students alike.
At IU Health hospitals, birthing suites are designed for comfort and include amenities like pull-out beds for partners and options for massage therapy and aromatherapy. Wireless fetal monitoring allows mothers to move freely during labor. Lactation consultants provide breastfeeding support both before and after birth, with personalized advice and access to supplies. Security is prioritized, with newborns wearing ID tags to ensure safety during their stay. Additionally, IU Health partners with Riley Children’s Health to offer advanced birthing options, including water births and midwifery services, for complex procedures and specialized care. IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital currently sees approximately 1,300 annual deliveries.
