No Position Purpose:

The Director of Utility Operations is a key leadership position within the Facilities Operations & Management Department having primary responsibility for the safe, effective operation of Dartmouth’s high/medium voltage, chilled water, hot water and steam distribution systems including the plants that generate and store thermal and electrical energy. The position is responsible for developing and implementing the utility systems’ operational strategy, and overseeing the day-to-day operations including financial management and regulatory compliance. The individual recommends capital projects and improvements as part of Dartmouth’s capital budget process. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Director has primary responsibility for developing policies and procedures to establish metrics and improve quality and productivity, while operating the utility systems in such a manner to help meet Dartmouth’s greenhouse gas goals. The position is one of the primary contacts with Town of Hanover and NH Department of Environmental Services related to air emissions permits.

Dartmouth facilities include over 6.5 million square feet of space in 165 buildings, serving over 5,900 students and 4,000 faculty and staff in a variety of academic, research, administrative, athletic, and residential spaces. Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Minimum of 10 years of progressive, comprehensive experience in utility operations. Familiar with the operations and maintenance of steam, hot water, chilled water and electrical distribution and production systems including high pressure boilers, chillers and heat pumps. BA or BS degree in engineering, facility management, construction management, business administration, architecture, or a related field, or the equivalent as measured by a diverse professional background with 15 years or more of relevant experience. Demonstrated background in fiscal management including estimating and understanding of theories, practices, and policies used in finance and business. Demonstrated organizational, personnel, and managerial experiences including change management and being an effective role model and administration of programs that promote and maintain employee culture and belonging. Demonstrated ability to operate utility systems under normal and emergency operations mode within regulatory requirements with a commitment to safety. Must be able to qualify as a Dartmouth Approved Driver. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to relate well to diverse groups of constituents and to build strong relationships within and among those groups. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software and the deployment of technology within operational responsibilities. Superb attention to detail and organizational skills.
