Ground Software Development Lead
to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on the Phoenix program in
Chantilly, VA . In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical and operational leadership to the cross-functional development teams for day-to-day execution. The individual will guide program activities related to design, development, and testing by focusing on delivering solutions and removing roadblocks. This position requires a combination of project management, process optimization, technical proficiency, and execution skills. To be successful, you will need a high degree of collaboration skills with the ability to provide insight into the status of multiple efforts at various levels of leadership. Essential Responsibilities: Drive execution among the development teams to meet program objectives and milestones.
Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams to drive efficiency.
Assist in the development of the Ground Segment technical roadmap in collaboration with systems engineering, ensuring alignment with program goals.
Measure and report program performance through development and adherence to budget baselines utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM).
Manage risk, issue, and opportunity processes. Identify potential risks and opportunities that could impact program performance and take proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost and schedule.
Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at technical and program reviews and boards.
Ability to be proactive by monitoring risk and health reports; candidate must have a proven track record of managing several scrum teams (6+) that are spread out geographically.
To be successful in this role, you should have: An ability to engage in technical discussion and invest in learning technical concepts.
Excellent judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.
A creative approach to project management centered around lightweight frameworks that enable rapid iteration.
Meticulous attention to detail, including holding tightly to your teams vision and maintaining a high product quality bar.
Proven ability to multitask and lead multiple Agile development teams to deliver high-quality products on time and within budget.
Basic Qualifications: Must have an active TS/SCI with the ability to obtain a SAP clearance at the time of application.
Bachelors degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) field from an accredited university with 9+ years of experience OR a Masters Degree in a STEM discipline with 7+ years of experience OR a PhD with 4+ years. Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
9+ years of software leadership experience with a history of people management and operational excellence.
Basic understanding and working experience with Earned Value Management.
Experience running a high-paced product development team across multiple locations and time zones.
Demonstrated success managing complex software development projects for an enterprise software company or startup.
Preferred Qualifications: 9+ years in software engineering or similar role. Experience contributing to system design or architecture of new and existing systems.
3+ years of experience working in Design Operations, Creative Program Management, or similar field.
3+ years experience with Atlassian toolset (Jira/Confluence).
Possesses SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and/or EVM Certifications.
Deep systems background delivering well-engineered and durable solutions, leading technical discussions, design, and code reviews.
Willingness and enthusiasm to do what it takes to get things done, leading by example and getting involved with the teams day-to-day work.
Passion for user experience and design with an understanding of the design process.
Experience building and fostering a robust, collaborative, inclusive team environment.
High emotional intelligence and the ability to adapt your communication and operational style situationally.
Experience working directly with product and engineering on ambiguous problems and crafting big picture strategies.
Ability to establish credibility and rapport with senior leadership.
Prior experience working with Space Command and Control (C2) Ground Systems.
Prior experience working with service-oriented or microservice architectures, containerization/container management.
