Job Description The Divisional Director is responsible for overseeing all medication preparations, storage, and safety in the organization.
Responsibilities Leadership
Supervises medication storage and preparation for all medications dispensed or distributed throughout the facility. Conducts inspection of patient care units and other areas of the institution where medications are dispensed, administered, or stored. Completes and documents inspection of all assigned medication storage areas.
Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients. Establishes standards for sterile product preparation.
Attends and participates in other programs, committees, and functions required by the health system or pharmacy. Conducts pharmacy staff meetings.
Program Management and Daily Operations
Implements and supervises pharmacy QI activities that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement of the organization. Actively participates in performance improvement activity to foster the provision of quality health care services by the department and hospital.
Participates in the administration of strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission, goals, and values of the organization. Manages support personnel by evaluating pharmacy personnel performance and providing documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance at time of occurrence. Recruits, interviews, supervises, promotes, disciplines, and terminates staff. Monitors workload statistics to prepare work schedules that maintain an appropriate staffing level.
Assists Director in development and implementation of systems to ensure that the department functions within budget guidelines. Recommends resources needed for the department.
Oversees inventory control activities (e.g. Monitoring stock levels). Provides oversight in performance of physical inventories. Maintains proper inventory control and storage, and maintains an adequate, in-date, stock of medications.
Performance Improvement and Quality
Develops management plans, procedures and schedules to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission for Accreditation Hospital Organization (JCAHO) and provides a safe and reliable atmosphere for the provision of quality patient and health care services.
Develops, maintains, and ensures compliance of policies and procedures that promote cost‑effective, appropriate, and safe medication use that apply to pharmacy services and clinical activities (e.g. therapeutic interchange).
Other Duties As Assigned
Performs staff pharmacist duties when needed, and performs essential duties of the pharmacy director in his/her absence.Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Experience: 10 years pharmacy experience, including 2 years managerial experience. PGY I or II residency considered in lieu of management experience.
Education: Per License Requirements
Licensure: Currently and unrestricted license in the State of Louisiana as a Pharmacist
