The Surgical Technician Lead demonstrates knowledge and skills to assist during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include aseptic technique, equipment set‑up, case pulling, and case breakdown. The role may rotate to other areas and includes onsite orientation and shift operations management. Essential Job Responsibilities
Comply with hospital/department policies, attendance, education, safety, infection control. Perform patient care within scope of training under RN direction. Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality. Adhere to ICARE standards and respond to emergencies. Attend mandatory meetings and in‑services (80%). Read and review emails and department communications. Prepare and organize materials for each procedure, including instruments and specialty supplies. Manage time and work efficiently. Coordinate safe transfer and positioning of surgical patients. Maintain clean OR suite and equipment. Use equipment and supplies safely, following manuals. Manage intra‑operative procedures and maintain sterile field. Use PPE appropriately and monitor compliance. Assist in patient and operative site draping. Anticipate surgeon needs and assist circulating nurse with counts. Handle specimens appropriately and document. Manage supplies and instruments per department standards. Report damaged or unsafe equipment. Assist post‑procedure cleanup and set‑up. Train new staff and cross‑train existing staff. Provide education and arrange in‑services. Position Requirements
Licensure/Certification: State of Colorado Surgical Registry required; current BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross. Current CST certification from NBSTSA preferred. Education: Graduation from an accredited program for Operating Room Technicians. Experience: Two or more years as a Surgical Technician. Knowledge/Skills: Basic to advanced scrub role knowledge across multiple specialties; organizational skills; professional communication; medication handling on sterile field; compliance with national patient safety initiatives and HCA protocols.
