Cloud Architect at CGI
Position Description We are seeking a skilled Cloud Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and efficiency. As a Cloud Architect, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our cloud environments meet both short‑term and long‑term organizational goals. This position is located in our Fairfax, VA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and architecture of cloud infrastructure solutions that are scalable, secure, and efficient, aligning with business objectives and technical requirements.
Develop and implement cloud strategies that support both immediate needs and future growth, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Ensure that cloud environments adhere to security standards and compliance requirements, implementing best practices to safeguard data and applications.
Continuously monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure to enhance performance, reduce costs, and improve resource utilization.
Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including IT, security, and business units, to understand requirements and deliver effective cloud solutions.
Stay informed about the latest cloud technologies and industry trends, incorporating innovative solutions and best practices into cloud architecture.
Required Qualifications Education:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a closely related technical field is required. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted by at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in IT, including at least five (5) years of direct experience designing and managing cloud‑based solutions across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or hybrid/multi‑cloud environments.
Relevant Experience Includes
Designing, implementing, and managing secure, scalable cloud architectures in enterprise settings.
Executing cloud migration strategies including rehosting, re‑platforming, and refactoring.
Building Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates, or Ansible.
Defining and governing architecture standards and frameworks to support high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability.
Applying best practices in cloud security, compliance frameworks (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST 800‑53), and IAM.
Managing cost optimization, resource monitoring, and performance tuning for cloud‑native services.
Implementing and operating containerized environments with Docker and Kubernetes.
Integrating cloud platforms with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for automated provisioning and deployments.
Leading technical design sessions and collaborating with stakeholders to align architecture with mission and organizational objectives.
Desired Qualifications / Non‑essential Skills
One or more advanced certifications from major cloud service providers, such as: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Professional
Additional certifications may include: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
ISC Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
ITIL v4 Foundation or equivalent
Compensation CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $100,800.00 – $245,500.00.
